Boise, the cultural capital of Idaho, has a diverse culinary scene that is expanding rapidly to include much more than the famous Idaho potato, and as a result, there are many great Boise restaurants.

So, if you’re looking for a tasty place to eat in The City of Trees, here are some of our top recommendations for the best places to eat in Boise! We were raised and have lived in Boise for the majority of our lives, and love these restaurants.

Best Casual Restaurants in Boise, Idaho 

1. Bacon – Best Breakfast in Boise

As you can guess from the restaurant’s name, bacon is the menu’s highlight. Second, Bacon has an all-day breakfast. Who can complain about that?

If it’s your first time, we recommend starting off with their bacon sampler shots. You get to try five different types of bacon ranging from candied bacon to spicy hot. This is our vote for the best breakfast in Boise!

If they have the berry-crème Frenchy with bacon and eggs special – order it! It was so delicious. We also enjoyed the Mac, awarded “Best in the US” by Food & Wine Magazine. It is filled with bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes, and cheese.

We would also recommend the Bacon Lasagna. If you’re feeling extra adventurous, you can try a Bacon Bloody Mary. Bacon is a great place to go if you’re looking for downtown Boise restaurants.

Rowen and Raven loved Alice in Wonderland, which is covered in birthday cake crumbs. Guru Donuts is a great place to eat in Boise if you’re looking for brunch or grabbing some donuts to go.

They are constantly coming up with new flavors for the menu, so you’ll have an excuse to go in time after time.

3. Fork

Fork is one of the best Boise restaurants for brunch.

Fork has a relaxed restaurant setting with a menu boasting modern Northwest-inspired cuisine, making it a great place to eat in Boise. We stopped in for brunch during the Saturday Market and had a wonderful time eating on their outdoor patio, watching the market, and enjoying the wonderful weather.

Fork has a high priority on using locally sourced ingredients for their dishes. Rowen and Raven loved their egg dish filled with potatoes, ham, peppers, and more. We would also highly recommend the salmon sandwich.

4. Boise Fry Co

This fry bar has seven different types of potatoes that come in five different cuts of fries with a “burger on the side.”

If this isn’t enough to convince you to come in for the famous Idaho potatoes, let me introduce you to the sauce and seasoning bar. Boise Fry Co has everything from traditional fry sauce to blueberry ketchup to garlic aioli, making it one of the unique and delicious places to eat in Boise.

All of the ingredients at Boise Fry Co are local, natural, and organic when possible. This is one of the best restaurants in Boise if you’re looking for a place unique to Idaho!

Not to mention Rowen and Raven think french fries should be one of the five food groups, so they were in heaven having dinner here. If you’re looking for a unique cut for your fries, try the po’ball cut.

5. Eureka!

Eureka! is a downtown Boise restaurant that offers an all-American menu featuring gourmet burgers and craft beverages. In addition to burgers, Eureka! has signature chicken sandwiches, funky tacos, and entrees.

We started off with the crispy glazed Brussels sprouts which didn’t disappoint. They were perfect to get our taste buds buzzing as we waited for the rest of our food.

We recommend the Jalapeno Egg Burger for the main course if you’re into a little spice or the Blackened Fish Tacos topped with mango salsa.

Eureka! has around 40 craft beers from around the country as well as a delicious charcoal lemonade. If you do dine here, make sure to check out Freak Alley, an outdoor mural gallery located just behind the restaurant.

6. Yoi Tomo Sushi and Grill

Yoi Tomo Sushi and Grill is a little Japanese eatery in downtown Boise, most known for its tasty sushi rolls!

We love the variety of sushi this restaurant offers. They serve regular sushi rolls, deep-fried sushi rolls, baked sushi rolls, and even a list of other specials.

This is a great spot to visit if you love sushi and are exceptionally hungry, as they do offer an all-you-can-eat option.

Aside from the delectable dishes, our favorite thing about this restaurant is the creativity of the sushi roll names. Many of them are named after popular Hollywood movies. If you’ve got a young sushi eater on your hands, they will love digging into the Despicable Me or Incredible Hulk rolls!

7. Waffle Love

Waffle Love is a super fun and laid-back restaurant with a location in the Warehouse Food Hall in downtown Boise. As you might expect, this spot specializes in waffles, but its menu will surpass all your expectations.

This eatery comes through for classic waffle lovers, with a standard waffle topped with whipped cream and a variety of different berry options. But they take things a step further with the sweetness by featuring a few Nutella and cookie butter-based waffles.

They also have a delectable cinnamon roll-inspired waffle as well as a Boise exclusive, the Boise Blue, topped with blueberry-lime jam and whipped cream.

The stunningly plated and equally scrumptious entrees are created from local ingredients, so you can be sure they are tasty and nutritious. Favorites here include the housemade ravioli and grilled artichoke hearts. Don’t leave without trying the gelato too! 

17. Luciano’s

Luciano’s offers some of the best food in Boise for a more affordable price when compared to other Italian restaurants near Boise, ID. Though the setting may not be as elegant as other downtown eateries, this location is comfortable, clean, and a fun place to enjoy a meal out on the town. 

Known for their killer starters, the stuffed mushrooms and lobster bisque are some of the best food you’ll eat around town. The Cioppino shouldn’t be missed either. Family-friendly Boise food doesn’t get better than at this informal restaurant, with kid favorites like craft pizza and pasta also as menu items. 

18. Cucina Di Paolo

Cucina Di Paolo is not what you might expect a highly-rated Boise restaurant to be. This small storefront specializes in homestyle Italian & American favorites in a strictly pick-up or take-and-bake fashion. Unlike most fast-food restaurants, this location offers no frills or even a small indoor dining area. 

A lot can be expected from the food at an acclaimed eatery that offers nothing in terms of an overall dining experience, but the food here comes through. Though the menu changes often, you can always count on some combination of pasta, sandwiches, and salads, not to mention some delectable desserts to be on the menu at Cucina Di Paolo. 

Mexican Restaurants in Boise 

19. Madre

Madre is home to some of the best tacos in Boise. This Boise restaurant has a casual indoor/outdoor seating area showcasing modern décor and retro-looking tile work.

We stopped for lunch during a Saturday outing on the Greenbelt and enjoyed Madre’s unique combinations. We loved the chicken tinga and Ensenada fish tacos. They also offer a kid’s meal, making taking my kids there a breeze.

20. The Matador

The Matador is a contemporary Mexican restaurant delivering on their quest to provide stellar and flavorful dishes as well as a stylish and well-curated space. The great ambiance here holds true to a classic Mexican restaurant but has a fun modern flair with both indoor and patio seating. 

Go-to favorites include margaritas, habanero prawns, and braised carnitas. All in all, any classic Mexican dish you’re dreaming about, they’ve got it, and it’s bound to be delicious. 

Locals love the food here but recommend taking advantage of the happy hour discounts, as typically prices can be somewhat expensive. Visit daily from 4-6 pm or after 10 pm for the best bang for your buck! Keep in mind the restaurant only permits people 21 and over after 9 p.m.

21. Casa Mexico

From tame classics like enchiladas and burritos to more inventive combination dishes and cocktails, you can always count on Casa Mexico for a wholesome and delicious meal out.

22. Mai Thai

Stop by Mai Thai for some thai-licious food – sorry, we just couldn’t resist the pun. But in all seriousness, Mai Thai serves creative Asian-fusion dishes that will leave the entire family wanting more. Even those who subscribe to a strict Vegan diet!

If you like sushi, definitely order a roll or two here. Rowen and Raven love sushi, so this was a big hit! For entrees, we recommend Thai Basil, Pad Thai, and Pineapple Fried Rice. In addition, the fried rice comes in a scooped-out pineapple which makes the dish extra exciting. This is one of the great places to eat in Boise.

23. BBQ4Life

BBQ4Life is one of the Boise restaurants meeting a large variety of diet needs.

BBQ4Life is a family-owned business that works hard to bring everyone together for a meal despite different allergies or eating preferences. They offer delicious smoked vegan dishes as well as gluten and dairy-free.

If you’re there for the meat, we recommend the meat sampler. It has ribs, tri-tip, pulled pork, and two sides. We also loved the hot pastrami sandwich.

If you’re taking little ones in with you, and maybe even if you aren’t, order the mac n’ cheese and add pulled pork. You’ll be finishing what your kids don’t eat! BBQ4Life is one of the great places to eat in Boise.

And last but not least, make sure you save room for dessert. We are still thinking about their bread pudding, made of Hawaiian bread and topped with ice cream, whipped cream, powdered sugar, and caramel syrup.

Cinnaholic is a new-age bakery like you’ve never experienced before. Dedicated to plant-based baking, this spot offers customers the opportunity to create their own cinnamon rolls, brownies, cookies, and other sweet treats. 

This customizable vegan experience makes for a fun place to visit as a couple or an entire family. Kids will have fun building their very own unique treat, and you can take comfort in knowing that the goods were baked with overall wellness in mind. 

We frequently stop by Cinnaholic in the Village just to grab a tasty treat.

25. High Note Cafe

The High Note Cafe specializes in 100% plant-based, fresh food. They don’t even use freezers or microwaves to store or prepare their dishes.
