3. Weeping Rock

  • Length: 0.4 miles
  • Elevation Gain: 98 feet
  • Route Type: Out & Back

The Weeping Rock trail is a fun, easy trail that is wheelchair accessible. When riding the shuttle, this will stop number 7. There is more foliage around this trail because of the constant weeping water from the above canyons.

This trail is open year-round, but at times, parts of the trail can become closed because there can be ice that falls from above. Because the trail is easy and the shortest trail in the park in the summer, it can be very crowded.

If taking this trail in the summer, be prepared for crowds. The time of the year with the most water flows is in the fall and spring.

  • Length: 5 miles
  • Elevation Gain: 1,600 feet
  • Route Type: Out & Back
  • Difficulty: Difficult

Angel’s Landing is a Zion National Park must-see if you’re capable of completing this hike. The area is very popular because it has some of the most amazing views in the park and is a famous trail. The trail is very narrow at times and somewhat dangerous because of the narrow sections and steep drop-offs.

This hike can take people anywhere from three hours to around five hours to complete. This is because of the complex nature of the hike. If you have a fear of heights, this is not a good trail to take. We would not recommend taking small children on this hike.

Hiking Angels Landing is one of the most difficult things to do in Zion National Park

The trail is now a lottery system. You can apply by using Recreation.gov.

This is a challenging hike, and one of the best ways to hike it is to start early. If you have soft hands, you may want to bring gloves. There are sections with chains that you will hold on to in order to have balance since there are sheer drop-offs.

You won’t find many people who do not like this hike. You should be well prepared when taking this trip. Many people wear neoprene socks and hiking boots to protect their feet and to keep their feet warm while hiking in the cold Virgin River. There is a flash flood potential so make sure the weather is appropriate.

You will get wet hiking this trail. It is recommended to have hiking sticks while on the hiking trail because of the slippery rocks you will be walking on in the river.

SHOP Hiking Sticks

The summer and early fall is the best time to hike the Narrows. In the spring, the hike can be closed off because the water level can be too high, making the trek dangerous.

If you are a little unsure about the hike, we recommend taking the Narrows: Zion National Park Private Guided Tour. You will have a professional guide that will guide you on the hike.

This is a highly rated tour and a fantastic option for those going in a group who have not hiked the narrows before.

One of our favorite places to play in the river was just off the South Campground. There were fun rocks to play on in the river, sandy shores, and trees for shade. Combing the Zion Nature Center and swimming in the Virgin River made for a fun afternoon for our kids.

When we visited, we parked at the visitor center and took the shuttle from there. The shuttle is very easy to navigate, and had no problem taking our kids on the shuttle.

If you’re going to be exploring Zion National Park for the day, be prepared with a way to take your water, food, and needed supplies for the day.

We took the shuttle to the end of the line and worked our way back to the visitor center. This helped us avoid long shuttle wait times at the first stops in the park.
