The only downside about this area is that it is an hour to get there. However, if you have the time, it is worth it to explore. If you do not have a car or don’t want to go by yourself, there are some tours that will do all the work for you.

If you are just comparing side by side, regardless of travel time, the Valley of Fire is hands down the better option. Valley of Fire is much larger, and we often see more wildlife because it is not as close to the city. We also find the views better at the Valley of Fire.

Yes, you can tour Red Rock Canyon on your own. A guide is not needed, but a tour guide does enhance the experience.

The best time of day to visit the Red Rock Canyon depends on the time of year. In the summer, it is not recommended to hike in the canyon in the afternoon. You will want to visit in the early morning.
In the spring, fall, and winter, you will want to visit in the early afternoon or in the morning, depending on how much hiking you are planning. We love visiting Red Rock Canyon and the surrounding areas in January, thanks to the cooler temperatures.
